The Family Motel works with the Denver Department of Human Services (DDHS) to provide a motel atmosphere with a human services flavor. Breakfast is available to all guests every day.
The Volunteers of America Family Motel served 1,481 families, veterans, and respite care guests from March 2020 to March 2021. The Motel is fully operational and maintains 40 rooms for families and individuals specifically for use by DDHS. The Motel reserves 30 rooms for families who may receive a voucher from the City of Denver for up to 14 nights in a year-long period. A second component includes 10 “respite rooms” with two men or women in each room. Working closely with a DHS Respite Program Coordinator, homeless individuals may be referred by a medical provider following a hospital stay. The length of stay depends on the time needed to recuperate.
