Women Veterans Program

Volunteers of America Women Veterans Services Programs serve Veterans experiencing homelessness through emergency services and transitional housing. In partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Volunteers of America assists Veterans in obtaining the support and services they need to exit homelessness permanently.

The program assists women Veterans and their children for up to 24 months with supportive housing, case management, and resources with the goal of helping each client secure a permanent and sustainable housing situation. During their time in the program, Volunteers of America houses participants at the Volunteers of America Family Motel or Clermont Commons, three beautiful five-bedroom transitional homes in Denver for women Veterans and their children.

CLERMONT COMMONS

In partnership with HomeAid Colorado, and through grants from VA, Daniel's Fund, and Home Depot, as well as many generous donors, Volunteers of America built three adjacent homes in east Denver to serve as transitional housing for female veterans and their children. The first house, completed by Wonderland Homes in 2011, currently houses four veterans. The second home, completed in December 2012 by New Town Builders, currently houses three veterans and their children. The third home, constructed by Berkeley Homes, and completed in March 2012, is currently being filled with residents.

HomeAid Colorado builds housing for homeless families and individuals, and then donates it to partner nonprofit care providers who serve the homeless. HomeAid has provided construction-related technical assistance as well as in-kind labor and materials from the building industry, allowing Volunteers of America to focus their energy and resources on providing direct services to the homeless while Home Aid takes care of construction.

The Home Depot Foundation is committed to ensuring that every U.S. military veteran has a safe place to call home. In April 2011, the Foundation pledged a three-year, $30 million initiative to address veterans' critical housing needs. That fall, they upped the pledge to $50 million. Volunteers of America Colorado Branch is the recent recipient of a THDF grant which assisted in the construction of the last two houses in Clermont Commons.
