Description

Make a difference in the life of seniors by delivering them a hot, nutritious meal.

Volunteers of America's Meals on Wheels program is in need of friendly and dependable volunteers who are looking to make a difference in the lives of seniors in their communities. The more volunteers who give their time, the more seniors in need receive hot, nutritious meals.

Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers deliver hot or frozen meals to seniors who anticipate the healthy lunch and comforting smile of a volunteer each delivery day. Delivery routes are available in Denver, Jefferson, and Arapahoe Counties, Monday – Saturday, and each route only takes about one to two hours to complete. In this short time, volunteers can help to ensure that these seniors stay safe, healthy, and happy in their own homes. Deliver once a week, once a month or as your schedule allows.

Delivering Meals on Wheels is about much more than just dropping off a plate of food. You might be the only visitor Meals on Wheels clients sees each day and your contact with them is so important for their spirit and wellbeing. Delivering meals helps seniors stay in their homes and truly impacts lives!

Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license and pass a background check.

See what volunteers are saying:

"I frequently hear "you make my day" as I am many times the only person they see all day."
"One of the ladies I see every week has trouble getting to the door and when she comes, she always has a big smile and she asks me to take her meal to the table because she can't carry it with her walker. I'll often say, "I hope you enjoy your meal today." Her response is, "I know I will. Do you know why I know? Because I didn't have to cook it!" Then a big smile! What an encouragement it is to me to see these folks every week!"

"I have a client who's 98 years old and a poet. She invited me in so that she could share one of her poems with me. It was quite good and helped me to understand that I don't serve "clients", I have an opportunity to spend a few minutes with friends each week"
