VOA Colorado Hosts Employment, Resources Fair for Veterans

Colorado Springs – Volunteers of America Colorado welcomes media to attend an Income & Benefit Fair for Veterans on Mar.1, 2023. This event is intended to aid veterans in increasing income through access to employment opportunities, benefits, and services.

The Income & Benefit Fair will be held at Freedom Springs, a permanent supportive housing complex that takes in formerly homeless veterans and provides them with a home, community, case management, and other services. Freedom Springs is operated by VOA Colorado in partnership with other agencies and is the only facility of its kind in El Paso County.

“Getting someone off the street is only the first step,” said Hunter DeSario, an Associate Manager at Freedom Springs. “We’re here to provide these veterans the support they need to become self-sufficient in the long term.”

In addition to the more than 50 people who call Freedom Springs home, individuals experiencing homelessness or receiving assistance through other transitional housing programs are also welcome to attend the event. VOAC staff will be on hand to answer questions, as will representatives of the El Paso County Department of Human Services, Another Life Foundation, and Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center.

Anyone interested in contributing to Volunteers of America Colorado through monetary means or volunteerism can do so at voacolorado.org. If you would like to donate hygiene items to Freedom Springs, please contact Hunter DeSario at hdesario@voacolorado.org.
