Volunteers of America Colorado Names New CFO, VP of Family, Veterans and Homelessness Services

Denver, CO – Volunteers of America Colorado today announced it has hired Chiyoko (Chi) Yokota as its Chief Financial Officer and promoted Angel Hurtado to the newly-created role of Vice President of Family, Veterans and Homelessness Services.

Yokota comes to VOAC with over ten years of experience in the nonprofit sectors as a financial expective for Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver, Denver Rescue Mission, Colorado Public Radio and most recently served as the CFO of the Downtown Denver Partnership.

“I’m thrilled to join an organization as sound, smart and invested in our community as Volunteers of America Colorado,” said Yokota. “VOAC is tackling the most pressing issues in our society today and I’m excited to play a part in its mission.”

Hurtado previously served as the Senior Director for Residential, Youth and Emergency Services for VOAC and has been with the organization since 2008. Her new role of VP of Family, Veterans and Homelessness Services is one of two positions created by the retirement of Lindi Sinton, who held the position of VP of Programs and departed VOAC in March following 43 years of tireless service. The other role, VP of Aging and Nutrition Services, has not yet been filled.

“It is a privilege to serve the people of this state through Volunteers of America Colorado,” said Hurtado. “I’m proud to see the difference my team is making by meeting the immediate and long-term needs of people experiencing homelessness, addiction and loss.”

Volunteers of America Colorado contains more than 50 distinct programs, operates more than two dozen affordable housing sites, and was of service to more than 104,000 individuals in 2022. VOAC’s Meals on Wheels program will soon expand its reach into Adams County and beyond by moving to a brand new, state-of-the-art 54,000 square foot Aging and Nutrition Services center in Commerce City.

“I believe we have the right leadership in place to take Volunteers of America Colorado to the next level,” said VOAC President and CEO Dave Schunk. “I couldn’t be happier to see Chi and Angel take the reins as we embark on this next chapter.”
